Living Set Apart: A Call to Kingdom Citizenship

Followers of Jesus are expected to and different from the world they live within.

Verse 11-12: The general call to Kingdom living.

  • Deny ungodliness and worldly living: yourself from practices and pursuits that contradict God’s commands.

  • Live sensibly: self-control, wisdom, and discernment in daily life.

(Proverbs 3:21, Proverbs 14:8, Galatians 5:22-23, 2 Timothy 1:7, Proverbs 15:28, Colossians 4:6, Romans 12:3, Hebrews 5:14, James 3:13, Psalm 119:105, Galatians 5:16-17, Proverbs 11:14, 2 Corinthians 13)

  • Live righteously: actions with God’s moral standards and treat others with honesty, fairness, and integrity.

Verses 13-14: The reason for Kingdom living is .

Verses 1-10: Putting Kingdom living to practice.

  • Sound doctrine

  • Older men
    • Temperate
    • Dignified
    • Sensible
    • Sound in faith
    • Sound in love

  • Older women
    • Not malicious gossips
    • Not enslaved to much wine
    • Teach what is good
      • Loving their husbands and children
      • Being sensible and pure
      • Working at home
      • Being kind
      • Being subject to their husbands

  • Younger women

Younger women the direction and example of the older women.

  • Younger men
    • Be sensible
    • Follow the example leaders set

  • Slaves
    • Be pleasing
    • Not contradicting
    • Not pilfering
    • Demonstrating all good faith
    • “…adorn the doctrine of God…in everything.”

These verses apply to any Christian under : employees, students, citizens, etc…
